Westwood Youth Hockey
Re: September & October Goalie Drills
To all Coaches and Goalies,
We are very excited for the 2009-2010 Hockey Season and the start of the goalie program for all of Westwood Youth Hockey. We strongly believe that in order to be a good goalie and have fun stopping pucks you must be a great skater. Skating is the foundation for goaltending.
For the remainder of September and October the focus of the drills will be on the following during your team practices (this will be monitored by one of the coaches assigned by the head coach of each team):
The focus will be on the following:
- Positioning (pre/post shot)
- Crease movements while maintaining good positioning and balance
- Shuffle
- T-Push
- Forward
- Backward
- Save selection and technique
- Stick
- Gloves (Trapper & Blocker)
- Butterfly
- Two Pad Stack
Our Goalie Skills will take place as they did last year every Sunday Night starting September 20th at 6:30pm. Because we had consistently 8-12 goalies from WYH we are going to have a sign up. This will help us monitor who is participating while controlling the numbers. The Goalie Academy of Boston strives to have a low ratio between the coach and goalies so they can maximize their attention to detail. This year we are making every effort to accommodate both the boys and girls we have also added Monday nights at the Pond for Girls as they can not make Sunday nights because most of the girls have games.
Attached are drills that can be preformed for 5 - 10 minutes while the teams are doing drills that do not involve the goalies.
If you should have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to give me a call.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Doug Michals
Goaltender Coordinator
